Overview

JAR helped Unreasonable Group turn bold food system innovations into a narrative-driven podcast that sparked global conversation and cross-sector collaboration.

Business Objective

To spotlight scalable, high-impact innovations within the food system — connecting the public, policymakers, and industry leaders to entrepreneurial solutions for sustainability, food access, and climate resilience.

“Our goal was to make complex food system challenges more accessible — and to highlight people who are already solving them.”
Christiana Musk, Host

The Solution

Each episode centers on a critical piece of the food puzzle:

  • Changing how we grow: Kate Hofman (GrowUp Farms) and Alex Eaton (Sistema.bio) explore systems like vertical farming and biodigesters that empower both urban and smallholder agriculture.
  • Changing what we eat: Annie Ryu (The Jackfruit Company) and Fengru Lin (TurtleTree) unpack the role of alternative proteins, including plant- and cell-based innovations, in curbing livestock emissions and scaling nutritious diets.
  • Ending food waste: Jasmine Crowe (Goodr) and Naomi MacKenzie (KITRO) demonstrate how tech-driven logistics and data can reroute surplus food to people and keep it out of landfills.

Strategically distributed on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and Acast, the series launched with a full trailer in late October 2022 and released all three episodes in November.

The Impact

Unreasonable Impact: Food Solutions succeeded in translating complex global issues into clear, compelling stories that sparked action. By spotlighting diverse founders tackling agriculture, protein innovation, and food waste, the series shifted the focus from problem to possibility, showing listeners not just what’s broken, but who’s fixing it.

The narrative-driven structure, paired with expert hosting and crisp production, created an accessible on-ramp for audiences ranging from policymakers to conscious consumers.

Beyond storytelling, the podcast functioned as a strategic tool for influence. Distributed across major platforms with support from BBC StoryWorks and Barclays, the series extended Unreasonable Group’s reach and credibility within climate, innovation, and investment circles. It opened space for meaningful dialogue between entrepreneurs, systems thinkers, and funders—positioning the podcast as more than a listening experience, but a springboard for cross-sector collaboration and change.

The series delivered:

  • A compelling, narrative-driven format aligned with global food and climate conversations
  • Distribution through high-visibility platforms and networks
  • Insights from Unreasonable ventures making measurable impact across continents
